Overall, I didn’t have a bad experience working with Michael Gee, and there were positives throughout the process. He connected me with a solid mortgage broker who helped me secure a favorable rate, and I appreciated having access to his network and resources. However, reflecting on the experience as a first-time homebuyer, I feel there were opportunities for more guidance and support throughout the process. Many of our phone calls felt somewhat rushed, and at the time I didn’t know what questions to ask or what concerns to raise because I was focused primarily on purchasing my first home. During the buying process, I relied heavily on professional guidance regarding inspections and the overall condition of the property. My understanding at the time was that everything appeared to be in good shape. After closing and moving in, I encountered issues I was not expecting, including a dirty home and a garage with a significant black widow infestation. I also realized after moving in that several major appliances were not included with the home, including the refrigerator, washer, and dryer. Looking back, I understand appliance inclusion is negotiated and should be verified in the contract, but as a first-time buyer I wasn’t aware that these were things I needed to specifically confirm ahead of closing. More guidance on expectations around included items, move-in readiness, and what to verify before finalizing would have been helpful. I eventually reached out regarding a realtor gift and ended up receiving assistance with replacing the dishwasher, which I do appreciate, especially since it was about a year after purchasing the home. At the time of closing, I wasn’t aware that realtor closing gifts were even a common practice until someone later mentioned it to me, so it wasn’t something I had expected or looked for initially. Closing day also felt impersonal, as I was informed the keys were left under a red brick near the door rather than having a formal walkthrough or handoff experience. To be fair, I was eventually able to address the issues, furnish the home, and get everything into working order over time. My feedback is less about any one issue and more that I would have appreciated a more educational and consultative experience that helped me feel informed and prepared as a first-time homeowner instead of feeling like I was figuring things out after the sale.
